If you have been on Pinterest or the web recently, chances are you have come across a post talking about Chia Seeds. I had been seeing these strange little seeds circulating food blog posts and my newsfeed for a while and so I set out to discover more about them and decided to try them out in a recipe with Grapefruit Essential Oil that I will share with you in this post.
Let's first explore more about these mysterious and minuscule seeds to discover what the hype is all about. By Googling 'Chia Seeds' I discovered there are 3.5 million results! Talk about popular.
According to the BBC's Good Food blog:
Chia seeds are rich in fibre – which helps with satiety, the feeling of fullness. A 25g portion of chia seeds contains approximately 9g of fibre. The daily recommended amount of fibre is 30g, so including a 25g portion of chia seeds each day could be a useful contribution. Fibre is important for a healthy digestive system and many of us do not reach the recommended target.
In addition to being packed full of fibre, other health benefits include:

So it seems that Chia Seeds aren't really a new thing since they are believed to have been used in ancient Mayan times. Thankfully these seeds have become mainstream with many households using them for their energizing and health properties.
As Dr. Axe explained above, adding essential oils to your recipe using Chia Seeds can give you added health benefits. For my recipe I chose to use doTERRA's Grapefruit Essential Oil which can help to increase your bodies metabolism making it a great way to start your morning or right before an exercise routine.
I don't want to give any spoilers away but I absolutely loved using Chia Seeds in my recipe! Not only were they super easy to use, they create a really interesting texture, especially when you soak them overnight. I hope you enjoy the recipe and try it out for yourself! Have some fun in the kitchen!
Chia Seed Yogurt with Grapefruit Essential Oil
I absolutely love yogurt so trying out Chia Seeds in a breakfast recipe seemed like a good fit. This recipe requires overnight soaking but only takes a few minutes to prepare and is a fantastic way to boost your energy for the day ahead.
I chose to use pomegranate seeds because of their deep red colour making this a perfect breakfast to make for your special someone on Valentine's Day - but also because these seeds are also packed with nutritious goodness including loads of vitamins and minerals (read more here). You can substitute with raspberries or sliced strawberries, if you prefer!
Tip: To easily remove pomegranate seeds first roll the fruit with some pressure on a counter or cutting board. Cut in half and gently squeeze into a bowl. The seeds should release quite easily!
Grapefruit Essential Oil
